Photography Workshops are held at the Southampton Art Centre (201 High St, Southampton (519) 797-5068), and the Huron Fringe Birding Festival in Port Elgin at MacGregor Point Provincial Park. Please note that registration for all workshops is handled by these organizations and pre-registration is required. All workshops are limited in class size so there is a very good student to instructor ratio. 

“Landscape and Waterscape Photography: tips and techniques”

He will share his tips and techniques to take your photography to the next level. You will learn about compositional elements that will enhance your photos, how to look for perfect photo locations, and how to effectively shoot land and waterscapes. “Wow! You Shot That with a Smart Phone?”

For most people that will be your “Smartphone.” In this workshop Kerry will share with you how to take better quality images with your smartphone and/or tablet. Techniques on how to use the in-camera controls, composition, and editing with different aps will be explored. Hands on photo opportunities and editing your images will take place throughout the workshop. Want to make your smartphone and tablet images have that “wow” factor? Then this is the workshop for you.

“Magic Butterfly Plants”

There is “magic” in the plants that attract butterflies to your gardens. Want to know these “magic plants” and how they can transform your garden into a colourful oasis? Join Kerry Jarvis as he shares his proven tips and techniques on creating butterfly and caterpillar friendly gardens. Learn about the “magic plants” and the butterflies they will attract to your gardens. Kerry will also share how “Butterfly Gardens of Saugeen Shores”, a community volunteer group, has helped in the recovery of Monarch butterflies by planting over 4,000 native plants.

Is your digital camera still set on factory settings? Are you eager to use one of the more creative modes? Then join Kerry, in this hands on workshop to help you unleash the power of your digital camera! Jargon, terminology and camera settings will be demonstrated so that all participants will leave with a solid understanding of their camera. Images taken in class will be critiqued, and tips and techniques oncomposition will be explored. Workshop is open to all level of photographers and all types of cameras.

Photo Blitz II will dive deeper into the obscure, and will feature ALL NEW LOCATIONS! This course will demonstrate the creative element of “seeing” and “exploring”, and how to capture them through the lens of the photographer. This workshop is open to all levels of photographers and all types of cameras.

Join Kerry on this fun, frog frolic to listen, enjoy and locate the Northern Leopard Frog, Wood Frog, Eastern Gray Treefrog, Green Frog, Spring Peeper and the American Toad who call MacGregor Park home. We will frolic around several ponds to revel in the sights and sounds of these amazing creatures.  Bring binoculars and cameras. This hands-on experience will bring out the kid in you

Gear: Be prepared for potential wet encounters. Wet weather gear and waterproof boots are recommended. Participants are encouraged to bring their cameras, and close-up binoculars.
