How does one celebrate a 90th anniversary? If you're the Georgetown Horticultural Society (GHS) you celebrate it by doing what you enjoy the most: planting flowers, shrubs and trees.
The society members love to garden and their hands, shovels, trowels and sweat have graced many parts of Georgetown, including: the Civic Centre Garden, the Continuing Care Complex at the Georgetown Hospital, Greenwood Cemetery, Allotment Gardens at Dominion Gardens and the Mary Street Parkette. All of these gardens are the Society's way of giving back to the community and making Georgetown a beautiful place to live and visit.

Kerry explores and shares tips on how to buy hiking boots. What should you look for in a hiking boot? There are a few things that you need to consider. For starters, you need to need know what type of hiking you plan on doing. Will it be on-trail hiking (hiking on crushed gravel trails, grass paths, rail trails) or, will your hiking be off-trail (rocky trails, along rivers and streams). Once your needs are determined then it is time to visit a reputable store and test out a variety of hiking boots. His article also looks at caring for your boots, buying the right type of sock and accessories - like gaiters for hiking boots.

One of Kerry's passions is photographing insects. In this article he shared some of his tips, secrets and techniques on photographing insects. Kerry stressed the importance of knowing your subject, their behaviours, life cycle and their habitats. Birds are amazing creatures. What Canadian is not familiar with the haunting cry of the loon on northern lakes or the honking calls of wild geese gracing our fall sky in V formation? Even our one-dollar coin, affectionately known as the "loonie" portrays the closeness we have to birds. Birds are a big part of our cultural heritage with bird watching being one of the fastest-growing recreational activities enjoyed by 8 per cent of the Canadian adult population. Interest in bird watching has created a multi-million dollar industry catering to the needs of birders. Everything from bird feeders and feed, birding field guides, magazines, birding trips, binoculars, bird baths, computer software and photography equipment are relished by people of all ages in pursuit of enjoying birds. What is it that attracts and fascinates Canadians to birds? Is it their bright colours, or their ability to fly or their melodic songs? Or perhaps, it is the fact that birds are everywhere: in our gardens, in parks, in the sky, on trees, on the ground, along roadways and on buildings and hydro lines.

A nature field guide is typically a compact, lightweight and concise book that can be used in the field to help us identify things. This article explores a cross section of nature field guides: from hiking to insects to wildflowers.

A modern form of hiking stick is Urban Poles for nordic walking.
